Commissioned in 1994 from a unique design by Garrard,
The Crown Jewellers, and made entirely by hand in the Garrard
workshops in London, this magnificent trophy, formed from sterling
silver and silver gilt and standing to an overall height of
26", is a personal presentation from then, His Highness
The Raja Muda Of Selangor (now His Royal Highness The Sultan
Of Selangor) to the Royal Selangor Yacht Club for the winning
yacht in the Racing Class at the Raja Muda Selangor International
Regatta.
The two handled Cup and cover stands on a sodalite plinth, around
which is fitted an inscription band bearing the Royal Selangor
Yacht Club emblem. Costing £35,000, the Cup is fluted
at its base and richly engraved with a seascape around the rim.
A silver gilt badge bearing the Regatta logo is applied to the
front of the Trophy and on the other side is engraved His Highness'
crest.
|
The handles
of the Cup and finial to the cover are modelled in relief on
both sides; the handles are decorated with an anchor and shell
motif whilst the finial displays a compass, a parcel gilt throughout.
Whilst the Trophy itself is perpetual, each year's winner will
retain a miniature replica standing 6 1/2".
