The
1997 race fleet assembled in Port Klang was no exception
despite the hazy conditions and regional economic turmoil
detouring some entrants. It was a time for a show of
strength by regional players in the SE Asian yachting
scene.
They
came to race and race they did! At precisely 1400 hours
on the 22nd November, the long serving Officer of the
Day, OOD Abdul Rahim fired his gun to signal the start
of the racing for the 1997 Regatta. An inspiring fleet
of 36 racing and cruising class yachts crossed the starting
line representing eight different countries.
It was a competitive event indeed.
In summary, the 1997 Regatta
which began on 21st November and ended on 29th November,
contained the mixed trials and tribulations experienced
during yacht racing and it was encouraging to see greater
Malaysian participation in achieving their yachting
endeavours.
