Welcoming
another large fleet of yachtsmen from Asia, Australasia,
the Americas and Europe, the 4th International Regatta
was a success that saw the gradual growth of Malaysia's
own offshore fleet, and participation in the event by
sailors from the ASEAN neighbours.
From 20-29 November 1993, 42
yachts from 13 countries geared for great sailing and
racing, but along the way, discovered genuine Malaysian
hospitality and welcome, that made it even more memorable.
As
for the two triangles set for Penang and Langkawi, it
certainly pushed racers and cruisers alike to their
very limit, as the weather was constantly blowing hard,
especially in Langkawi. This was more rewarding, as
these triangles are counted in for the first time, and
point accumulation is based on the best four or five
races.
The Regatta found an ideal niche
that provided a unique blend of experiences to yachtsmen
whose mental disposition had to succumb to the challenging
vagaries of nature and occasional man-made obstacles.
