Attracting an increasing range
of Asia Pacific, North American and European-flag yachts,
the third RAJA MUDA SELANGOR INTERNATIONAL REGATTA was surely
an event to be remembered. From 19-27 November 1992,
45 yachts from 12 different countries raced to be the
top while enjoying the Malaysian cities, towns, islands,
cultures and cuisines.
With the 1991-92 Europa Round-the-World
Rally that celebrated the 500th anniversary of Christopher
Columbus' trans-Atlantic voyage and the dawn of possibly
united Europe, the RAJA MUDA SELANGOR INTERNATIONAL REGATTA was
also linked in, adding substantiality to the fleet.
Significant changes for the Regatta was made; the Pangkor-Penang
leg was raced as well and the best two of three races
was counted for the Raja Muda Cup. The optional triangles
are retained and score separately to make up a five-race
event.
The Third Raja Muda International
Regatta is seen to have achieved many objectives, from
the rising interest in sailing as a sport in Malaysia,
and acceleration in the development of marine leisure
facilities in the country.
